1st December - BOB WARTINGER SEMINARS
The NZ Powerboat Federation in association with the UIM has arranged for Bob Wartinger to visit New Zealand in the New Year to present seminars on powerboat racing safety and medical issues.
For those of you who don’t know who Bob is. He is the President of the UIM Safety and Medical Commission since 1990 and Chairman of the American Powerboat Association Safety Committee since 1996. He constantly studies safety as related to powerboat racing. He takes a systematic approach and examines the variables involved from the time a person decides to race through to an incident and rescue.
He explores the possibilities of preventing potential incidents by making changes further up the safety chain. In addition to the safety considerations that will be discussed, there will be a number of ideas on how to improve a race team’s performance because many of the safety related ideas are directly related to improved driver performance on the race course.
Bob is a contributing member of the International Congress of Motorsport's Science. Members include Formula 1, Nascar and most motorsport's associations. He is arguably the most qualified person in the World on safety and medical issues relating to powerboat racing.
He has been interviewed by the BBC, Discovery Channel, CNN, History Channel, National Geographic Channel, NBC affiliates, NY Times, Aviation Week and a number of other periodicals. Apart from all that, Bob is a current extremely active powerboat racer himself. He has won three World Championships, 24 US National Championships and set 122 World Speed records including the current Outboard World Speed Record of 284 kph (176.5 mph). We have organised two seminars.

first will be at the:
Auckland Coastguard
Mechanics Bay
Monday 2nd February at 5.30pm

and the second at:
Cambridge
on 6th February at 9.30 am At the Riverside of Cambridge Motor Lodge and Conference Centre
7 Williamson St
Cambridge.

Each seminar will run for 3 ½ hours.
Entry will be by ticket sale and the cost per person will be $20 to cover the cost of the rooms, equipment hire and refreshments that will be provided. Numbers will be limited to 120 people. It is strongly recommended that all race drivers, crew, race boat builders, rescue personnel and anyone else who has an interest in the sport attend. Further information can be found on Bob at: http://www.americanchallengewsr.com/bob_wartinger.htm

Brett was involved in a very close battle for the first part of the race with Ken Lupton and was disappointed when Kens boat broke a prop because it had the makings of a close finish.

The Warlord Team now heads to New Zealand where Brett has plans on becoming World Champion.

The point at which the damage occured

The boats are on the ship home in 10 days so Tom Heffernan will be a busy man.

29th November - EC Griffith Cup News 10.30pm

L-R: Link, Bruce, Daniel,. Warwick, Grant & Jack

Repairs to Warwick's Boat have been Made and it Will be Fit for Chris Picard to Drive Tomorrow.
David has said he will run his Boat without the Canard Wing and while this means he wont be quite as fast(canard wing pushes the front of the boat down helping to prevent a blowover) he will still give it crack for the Public of Yarrawonga/Muwala.
Kens Boat is all Go. Touch wood all of Grant Rivers Engines are Running Strong.
The three Aussie GP's are unknown starters at this stage. Warlord apparently had the Canard wing lock in the up position causing him to be well off the pace.
GP1 broke a blade on the prop and damaged the Skeg Bracket (the bit that holds the Prop shaft at the rear of the Boat). If Tom Heffernan can replace his prop shaft he may be able to borrow a Prop off the Kiwi's.

Always good to see the Big V12 Merlin in Aussie Connection with the fire on start up. The Big Boat ran quite well all day.

David's still smiling even though a lot of damage is on the boat.

The Gallery Page will be updated Tonight just click the link below to view.

Diving into the bottom turn on the first lap and its all on for young and old with GP1, Annihilator, Annihilator 2,and Warlord all in the hunt.

Lap two and Warwick is still applying the pressure to Grant Harrison

Supporters and Team Celebrate the finish.

Warwick's Team await his return.

Warwick catches the Kiwi Flags.

The repaired hole came away at the back but it was the front that held which was the most important thing.

Ken Lupton's Boat will be Racing tomorrow it is still running strong. David's and Warwick's Boats have too much Hull Damage to race. This means Chris Picard will not be able to race Annihilator in tomorrows Races.

Tom Heffernan lost his Prop when the Shaft screwed and broke. You can see it flying off at the rear of the boat.

5.15pm
Apologies for the delay had to attend the prize giving

Warwick Lupton won a very dramatic and exciting Final beating home Ken Lupton and Dean Gleeson in Kryptonite next came Aussie Connection and Warlord and Image . Grant Harrison had a DNF while just ahead of Warwick on Lap 2. David Alexander broke his Canard Wing and that damaged the Rudder and did not finish. Ken Lupton had issues when his Trap door broke open and that made him slow down on the Last Lap.
Warwick Lupton's hole repair only just managed to hold with the plate pealing off the back of the repair.

The team is now packing up and will be at the official prize giving at the Ski Club in the Early evening.
Pictures will be uploaded later tonight need full power on the computer, also a lot of emails need to sent out.

Heat one was just run with Kickass boat not starting down to just 3 GP Boats. The race was a clean start and GP1 was hanging on to the outside of Annihilator 3 with Annihilator 2 keeping pace in the first turn. The narrow turns seemed to slow Ken up and Grant Harrison's Boat managed to sneak away from the second lap to win by half a straight from David Alexander and Ken Lupton.

First Heats are only two races away now so wont be much longer to wait. The Ken Lupton crew have had to put the football away and prep the boat. David's boat has been hooked up to the Crane for the last half hour waiting

12.30pm

The three kiwi boats, Warlord and Aussie Connection took to the water in a race prior to lunch. None of the boats were pushing very hard and just used the race to practice the start and warm up the engines

Grant Harrison is doing some adjustments on the Turn Fin

11.00pm update

There has been a change to the Heats with John Cross not racing in Rival due to mechanical issues, which is a shame. As a result they have moved Red Bellies Bruce Sanders into the 3rd Heat.
Practice went well with the exception of GP1 who broke down and is being towed back in.

I will leave the new Heat information up in grid form and fill in the times when the heats start later this afternoon

29th November - EC Griffith News 8.30am aussie time

The Teams are hard at work on setting up the spare engines for the morning Practice. The Course is being set up as very short and tight should be quite a challenge for the big GP hydro's to handle.

wont be to much picture updates today but will endeavor to post times and results ASAP.

29th November - EC Griffith News 5.30am aussie time
Its 5.30 in the morning the birds are singing always a good sign of good weather bit to dark to see what the clouds are might be like but no rain and wind yet. We will be heading to the Pits at 7am when they open and getting stuck into preparing the Boats. heats will be starting sometime after 2.30pm so there's a fair bit of inactive for the GP boats plenty of other racing on and a couple of races the GP boats can enter if they want to. Its possible some may choose to do this simply to see how the boats handle race conditions and keep the big engines warm. The GP engines have over 8 litre's of Oil in them which is why you see them warm them up on the shore before going out on the water.

Warwick in GP007 took the turn closer to the bridge

Ken in GP009 was happy with his boats runs.

28th November - EC Griffith Cup News 5.50pm Aussie time (updated 6.45pm)

All 3 Annihilator Boats ran in Practice a number of times. The only issue the Team had was when Warwick changed to his second engine to give it a test they have had to change the Mag on the Engine. Weather started out hot and fine right up to the scheduled Practice start time of 1pm when a good steady Drizzle set in for the duration of Practice.

Elizabeth Wolfe from America here to run in a 1.6lt Hydro had a chat with Warwick and David from the Annihilator Team

Grant Harrison took GP1 out for just a few laps. The Team is still trying to set the Boat up and grant is hopeful of a top 3 finish.

Brett Niddrie showed he has the Boat to beat in Warlord which took the turns very cleanly and Ron Burton was looking on with interest during the Boats two runs

Dean Gleeson? in Kryptonite had a short warm up in the Rain

Aussie Connection will be driven by Mark Healey they and Tom heffernan in Dragula had just one run each. A lot of Boats in the support classes will of course still be traveling and the Parade which I see has only just finished with the Boats just passing the motel.
I am hoping to be live online during the day tomorrow but there is a chance this may not eventuate. If you haven't` seen an update by lunch time then you will have to wait until after 5pm Aussie time for news of the Racing
