28th March - Kiwi's set down challenge to Aussie's

Press Release
Kiwi and 2006 World Grand Prix Hydroplane Champion Warwick Lupton has confirmed that the Annihilator Team comprising of Annihilator 1, 2 and 3 will be shipped to compete in the 2006 Lake Mulwala Ski Club E.C Griffith Cup.

The team which featured heavily in last years event which Annihilator (Warwick Lupton) lead the final until a blower belt failure, Annihilator 3 (Ken Lupton) ran second and Annihilator 2 (David Alexander) third. This year the team will be looking to not only take the EC Griffith Cup back across the Tasman, but take the first three positions.

The teams lead up to the event could not be better with the Kiwi's conquering the Aussie's in New Zealand only in February 2006 winning both the World Championship and A.E Baker Australasian Hydroplane Championship from a field of four strong Aussie contenders. In addition the team has dominated the local New Zealand circuit with all three boats posting major championship wins including the prestigious Masport Cup.

Aussie favorite Warlord owned and driven by Paul Burton , who missed competition in New Zealand this year has also confirmed their entry and will be seeking to bring in the form that gave the team the fastest lap and race time in the 2005 event, which saw the team controversially disqualified for undertaking an extra race lap during the qualifying heats.

The confirmation will mean a massive financial boost to the Yarrawonga / Mulwala region with an expected 25 crew members and up to 250 New Zealand supporters to make their way to cheer on their powerboat hero's.

With four of the biggest names on the World Grand Prix Circuit confirmed the vent is shaping up to be the best Griffith cup staged in Australasia.

19th March - Auckland Regatta

Steve Hughes in "Total" cleaned up all his Races today, although "The Advocate" and "Sierra" pushed him hard at times. Steve took out the King of the Harbor Race.

Formula 3 though once more provided the Highlights as just about all the F3 boats at one time or another did split turns rounding the Buoy
I will try to post pictures during the week

19th March - Auckland Regatta

Yesterday the Mangere Harbor provided a good racing surface and the racing got underway on time.
A disappointing turnout of Series 3000 boats was the only drawback but at least the two top points leaders were there and both John Hallet and Jeff Robinson had plans on how to win the Title. They were surprisingly close to each other all day.
Formula 3 provided the closest racing of the day with the exception of the unbeatable "Sinister", there only dramas were the fact that they were all confused over the short course and most of the field were disqualified from race 1.
There is more Racing today

12th March - Wairarapa Regatta

"Dupont" Philip Stillwell gets plenty of Air under his Boat

Awesome Action at the Wairarapa Regatta
I only was there on the Sunday and they only had a few races due to the wind and water conditions with many Boats sitting out for various reasons.
The Barney Rhodes Race for Fastest 6 boats was won by "Advance Electrical" John Hercock in his F1 Tunnel Boat.
The Flamecrusher Trophy for Modified Hydroplanes was won by Tony Hall in "Tempest" from his son Brendon Hall in "Armageddon" and Steve Mathieson in "Midnight".

11th March - Offshore Wellington

Winner "Placemakers" on the outside of "Jessie James" and sitting in a hole dwarfed by the Big Boats is "Konica Minolta"

The 3rd Round of the Armacup Offshore Power Boat Series was held at Wellington. I thought it was my only chance to see them this year and popped down to see what the Action was like.
the winds were at 17knots and as you can imagine that was Rough but late in the Race it picked up to 25+ knots and the race was called early for safety reasons.
The smaller Formula Honda class Boats were very exciting to watch and the Pilots of these boats must be very bruised all over after taking the pounding they did.
Sadly "Jessie James" had a Problem going into the Race and was just in to finish for as many points as it could get. early on a huge battle between "Sleepyhead" and "Placemakers" looked like it would go down to the wire but "Sleepyhead" seemed to suffer Engine Problems and backed off. "Placemakers" Driver Wayne Carson and Throttle Richard Shores took a comfortable Win from I think "Addictive" and "Sleepyhead".
Its anybody's guess who came where in the other classes but check out the Offshore Power Boat Website for Details

Here's just a Taste of some of the Action I got click image to view larger picture
Top Four Pictures are from Brett McIver who was on a Control Boat on the course

"Jessie James" Grant & Wayne Valder

"Konica Minolta" Greg Brinck & Eldon Archer

"Addictive" Grant Smith & Dave Aldridge

"Placemakers" Richard Shores & Wayne Carson

The Start was a long way off but quite spectacular with a large field

"Addictive" Grant Smith and Dave Aldridge was a rather quiet Boat

You can have two Props but really they don't do much good if the are not in the water eh.
"Shadow" Mark & Aaron Diggleman

"Placemakers"Richard Shores & Wayne Carson

"Honda Marine" Travis & Carl Thompson

"Altitude" leads "The Gambler's" Kelly Smith & Matt Hopkins

"Marine Works" Jonathan Martin & Steve Whitford pulled out early on in the race
