28th September - Annihilator Race Engines

Grant Rivers has a lot of work on at the Moment not the least of which is the Annihilator Race Team's 6 Engines. Pictured above is David Alexander's Engine which suffered Oil Leaks at the EC Griffith Cup this Engine has been rebuilt.
The biggest Headache for Grant is that a lot of the bits and pieces are now mismatched after the rushed job to get an Engine built for Ken's Annihilator 3 in the Pit area of the EC Griffith Cup. The Team had to use bits from 3 Engines to get Ken running so its now a case of Grant finding and putting everything back on the Right Engine

Pictured below is the New Engine Block for Ken there will be a few long hours put into building this Engine.

Have a look at Grant Rivers Website at
www.riversspeed.co.nz

25th September - Grand Prix World Championship

The North Americans decided that due to a Lack of Grand Prix Hydroplane Boats that compete in the Northern Zone it would not be worth while to try and run the World Championship.
The New Zealand Grand Prix Hydroplane Drivers Club after much debate decided to Host this event for a second straight Year. This also would be a big ask on the financial side of things but with Luck and good planning things should go as well as last year.

In 2008 The GP World Championship should be Hosted by Australia the only issue there being which venue. The Kiwis will certainly be keen to help support that event, hopefully it would run within a reasonable time frame with another major GP regatta to make traveling to Australia all the more worth while.

14th July - EC Griffith Cup on TV

On Sunday July 16th on TV3 Sports Arena Programme you will get the chance to view the 2006 EC Griffith Cup on TV for the first time, and you will be able to decide for yourself some of the important issues that made the Running of the Cup a bit of a disaster.
Did Warwick Lupton Jump the Start?
If The Fly was in front of Warwick why wasn't he DQ as well?
How Come only 7 Boats started the final when Warwick could have started?
Just who was to blame for the incident between the two Paul's GP55 & Warlord?
How many Boats kept going under the Red Flag?

But the Big Question is Who Won? or should the Cup Race be declared a Non Event?

The Race is scheduled to run at 4pm, but I would tune in at 3pm to TV3 and double check the Times just in case.

14th June - Denise Moughan

Hi Everybody I would like to pass on a Message on behalf of Denise.

Some of you will of course know that Denise has been unwell lately and prior to the Boat show had spent a few Days in Middlemore Hospital with an Illness. After the Boat Show She was readmitted to Hospital and after many Tests was found to have a rather complicated infection of her Heart Valves this is a pretty serious thing and has a rather large and complicated name to go with it as well.

During the last two weeks Denise has been unable to respond to her Emails and of course is unable to Post out the DVD's to those of you who have Ordered them. Denise would like you to all know that she is on the recovery and is ever so hopeful that she will be freed from the Hotel Middlemore by the end of the week.
Once home she will be taking it easy and not venturing out side in the cold to do Boat Shows and the like but will be able to Reply to all your Mails and start work on getting those DVD's out to You.

The New Zealand Grand Prix Hydroplane Drivers Club Deeply Appreciates the Hard Work that Denise does on behalf of the Club and Hopes that she does take it easy over these next few weeks and makes a full recovery.

28th May - Kilo News Unofficial Times

It was a just a tad bit Foggy this morning and even after a long wait for the Fog to lift you can see above on "Renegade's" first run it was still pretty hard see.

18 Boats were on hand to set times with Malcolm Wotton "Renegade" and Steve Mathieson"Midnight" going for Australasian records so they had the honor of being first up. Sadly there times were not fast enough to break the records and despite making many changes to there Boats and engines they just didn't quite make the speed needed to break the records.

Scott Coker "Fair Warning" set a record for Grand National Hydroplanes at 138.04mph breaking the old record held by Selwyn Coker of 135.572mph

There were a few Northern Zone Records Broken including "Anti Cyclone" setting a Mod VP speed of 87.108mph

Perhaps the luckiest competitor was Brody Mathieson in "Meridian" who on his first run up the river didn't have the Water Hose connected to the rudder for well over the second half of the kilo as can be seen in the above image. Brody stopped after the first pass to check after the gauges indicated something was amiss and refitted the Hose and continued the second part of the run to set a time of 104.787mph. Brody later returned to do a 102.52 time as well
